Bedroom Decorating - 7 Ideas to Inspire a Creative Cowboy Bedroom Decor Theme Your Son Will Love

Little boys love the cowboys of the old west. Did you know that you can bring this look to your home décor quickly and inexpensively? It is easy to create a western cowboy bedroom theme with the seven simple steps outlined in this article.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

Choose a western cowboy wall border to set your theme.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

The first step to get the most mileage for your dollar is choosing a wall border that sets the theme and color scheme that you would like to accomplish for your cowboy bedroom design. There are many choices available online for you to choose from. Consider using companion wallpapers above and below your chair rail before placing your wall border to give your bedroom theme a more finished appeal. For this theme, you will want to keep the companion wallpapers more neutral, select patterns such as leather stitching wallpaper or a tan faux wallpaper to give you a designer look.

Choose a bedding style that your child can grow with.

A great bedding option to consider for a cowboy bedroom theme is a denim comforter set. It can be used for many years because of the durability factor of denim and works great with the rugged look that is associated with ruff and tumble cowboys. Denim comforter sets are easy to find as well, check your local discount stores or shop online to get the best bargains.

Accent your bedding with rustic accents.

A creative and inexpensive option for accenting your bedding would be to purchase red bandana fabric at your local craft store and use it to create custom throw pillows. You can also use old denim or western style shirt fabric or pockets to add personality to your pillows.

Creative storage space expands the theme while providing functionality.

Check your local garage sales and thrift stores for a rustic wooden trunk to help pull your room theme together and add storage space to your room. You can customize your trunk and change out the hardware by adding rustic black iron chest hinges, lock and side handles. Complete the look by placing western theme plaid blankets on the top of the trunk.

Use a rustic country shelf as a wall accent.

You can purchase wooden shelves with peg hooks at your local crafts store for next to nothing. For a complimentary design, paint your shelf in a warm white hue and lightly sand the edges to give it a worn rugged look.

Add a personalized sign to one wall for a classic touch.

It is easy to locate old wood pieces or old wood fence pieces that can be used as room accents. Once you have found a piece with a bit of character, purchase some thin lasso rope and use it to write your child's name in cursive on the sign. Be sure to use a glue that is appropriate for a proper bond between the rope and wood.

Let your child create their own room accents with custom artwork.

Help your child surf the internet for their favorite cowboy and western photos. Print them out on your home printer and then help your child frame the pictures in vintage or rustic picture frames. Another idea is to shop your local antique stores for cowboy posters or cowboy and western wall hangings.

Create your own nightstand as a great finishing accent.

You can accomplish this by locating old suitcases at garage sales and antique shops. Simply stack the old suitcases atop each other until you reach the desired height. This can be a decorative element as well as functional, because your child can use the suitcases as storage.

Finish off your room theme with Wild West accents galore.

Consider using western tin stars, cowboy clocks, banks, old guitars or ukuleles, lasso ropes, western lamps, old Sheriff badges or lanterns to complete your cowboy bedroom theme makeover.

Any of these seven ideas, or even all of them, make it extremely easy to create a cowboy bedroom décor theme that your child will love, while not robbing the bank.

Decorating Contemporary Nursery Rooms

Many moms and dads like to choose traditional and vintage items to outfit a newborn baby's room, but some parents also like to decorate a nursery with sleek and stylish contemporary furniture that not only matches the furniture in other rooms of the house but gives the young baby boy or baby girl their own sense of style while growing up. While the baby furniture market is full of classic style cribs, toy chests and dressers that have been around for ages, you can also find a great selection of modern baby furniture that will not only be practical furnishings for keeping a nursery neat and tidy, but also have the aesthetic features to make your baby nursery a contemporary showcase for the latest in infant and toddler furniture.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

Rarely will you find a nursery that doesn't contain a crib. From the first night you bring your newborn home the crib will be the center of attention for the first few months. Babies spend roughly 70% of their early days napping and sleeping and therefore the crib is an essential piece of furniture for any nursery. Many manufacturers turn out traditional style baby cribs with solid wood frames and spindle designs but you can also find baby cribs with a modern edge including top brand name manufacturers Azur and Pod that forgo vintage looks for more modern and sleek themes. The Pod sleigh crib is inspired by upscale urban living and reflects a more polished and sleek lifestyle. Made from bamboo veneer and painted engineered wood in a dark espresso finish the Pd sleigh baby cribs can easily convert into a day bed by removing the side and front rails and with brushed stainless steel feet gives off a contemporary look that will fit in any urban or upscale nursery.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

Changing tables and dressers are other pieces of furniture you will certainly want to include in the design of any nursery and again while many manufacturers stick with plain wood furnishings that fit the classic nursery look many other designers offer contemporary changing tables and dressers that will fit with a modern baby room look. Atlantic Furniture offers a variety of knock down changing tables made with solid hardwood construction with plywood shelves that originate from rubber trees so your choice of baby furniture not only looks great it is also environmentally friendly and is valued for its dense grain, stability and attractive colors.

Another area of nursery decor you can upgrade with contemporary style furniture is table and chair sets. Most families will use the nursery as a playroom as well and it makes sense to have high quality tables and chairs for young kids to do arts and crafts projects and other playtime activities. Not Neutral designs a fine selection of sleek table and chair sets that feature high density polyethylene that has an attractive aesthetic look and does not have the look of more common recycled materials. With high grade stainless steel fasteners holding everything together these table and chair sets look all grown up and give the nursery a sophisticated look that will enhance the contemporary look of the baby room.

What is an All Terrain Wagon?

As a retailer of wagons and children's toys, we are often asked the question, "What is the difference between a wagon and an all terrain wagon?" My sarcastic answer is, "It's the kind of wagon that you wish they had when you were little."

Bed Side Rails Toddler

If you think back to your childhood and our experience with a little red wagon of your or that of a friend or sibling, you may remember that pulling your wagon through the grass or dirt was not always so easy. Even on pavement, the small hard rubber wheels felt every bump in the road to the point that the vibrations seemed to run up your arm and shake your whole little body.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

If you were lucky enough to convince one of your friends to pull you while you sat in the wagon, it was fun for a while. But again the vibrations... Whooo! And if they tried to pull it with you in there off-road it was near impossible to move. The thin wheels would just sink into the soil.

I remember using my wagon while we were collecting some lumber and parts to build a tree fort, and in the end it was almost easier just to hand carry the wood from A to B instead of the three of us trying to push/pull our overloaded wagon through the grass and the soft ground of the woods. I can remember thinking, "If only this darn thing had some big inflatable tires on it." Well, now it does!

If you haven't figured it out by now, this was all just the build up to tell you what an all-terrain wagon is not. It is not the wagons you remember, it's the one you wish you had. Imagine how you would have been the envy of the neighborhood, and king or queen of the playground sporting you off road masterpiece.

Today the all terrain wagon takes the classic look of the traditional radio flyer wagons with either the classic red metal base, or a flat wood wagon base, and upgrades the performance with a set of 4 wide, inflatable tires. If you then add some wooden side rails you have created not just an all terrain wagon (ATW), but now an all terrain cargo wagon. Great for hauling all of your loot! And if you can get someone to pull you in the wagon, the ride is much smoother. For added occupant comfort, radio flyer accessories now include a wagon pad to cushion the little bottoms of the riders. That would have been nice when I was little.

Is it just me or are kids today just really lucky? Don't worry, if you want your kids to suffer like you did, Radio Flyer still makes the traditional wagon models as well.

If you want to see the differences, visit our web site.

10 Safety Tips You Need to Know About Baby Cribs

Your new life with your baby will be froth with sleepless night, so it's important to get the right crib and crib bedding.  To make it easy on yourself, especially if you're breastfeeding, have your new baby in a bassinet by your bed.  By the time your baby is rolling over you should have the crib ready and waiting for them and you can get a good night's rest.  Here are some safety features your crib should have.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

Your baby will spend more time in their crib than anywhere else except perhaps the playpen.  That is until the reach the sitting up and crawling stage.  Then watch out - they'll be up to no good.  But to keep them safe in their cribs it pays to know about crib safety.  So what makes a crib safe for your baby?

Bed Side Rails Toddler

The slats shouldn't be more than 2-3/8 inches apart.  If they're bigger than that then the chances of your baby's head going through them are pretty high.  But you only have to worry if you use an antique or perhaps a second hand crib.  Older cribs may not meet the safety standards of today.  They could also have lead paint on them or splinter easier than cribs that are more modern. Beware of cutout designs on the rails and head and footboards.  Babies like to stick their hand in everything and will get stuck in them. When choosing a crib, give it a good shake to make sure it's sturdy.  If it wobbles, look for another brand or style of crib. Most cribs of today are made with the drop-side at least 9 inches above the mattress when in the lowered position.  This helps protect your baby from falling out of the crib.  Also, make sure it's easy to raise and lower, as you will probably be using one hand most of the time (sleeping baby in your arms). All new cribs are made of lead free and non-toxic material so there's nothing to worry about there.  But you do need to check second hand or antique cribs to make sure they are safe. While putting the crib together if you get cut on any of the hardware then you can be sure your baby will too.  Replace or cover up any hardware that could injury your baby. The mattress should fit snugly to the frame.  Make sure there are no gaps for your baby to fall though.  More than two finger gap means it too small.  Also, check the foam in the mattress as time goes by the edges break down and make more gaps. Always use nonflammable and hypoallergenic bumper pads.  You only need bumper pads when your baby starts to move around and turn over.  They are there to prevent your baby from sticking their arms through or bumping their head against the railings.  Make sure the ties are on the outside of the crib.  (This is a highly subjective issue and this is my opinion so research bumper pads and make your own informed decision.)  For some people, it's the other way around.  They use bumper pads when the baby is small and remove them when they get more active. After a time you'll need to tighten the bolts, nuts, and screws and check the railings for cracks.  Your baby will be chewing on them. Don't place the crib next to windows with curtains, drapery cords or pull ropes, and not next to furniture that can help them get out of the crib. Before buying your crib, always check that it meets all safety requirements.

That's actually 11 safety tips for cribs and the most important one is number 11.  Federal safety guidelines went into effect in 1973, but in 1991, it became mandatory on all cribs to meet this safety standard (16CFR part 1508) as set by The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC).

10 Safety Tips You Need to Know About Baby Cribs

Crib Safety

Buying a crib can cost a lot of money, but one thing is certain - your baby is priceless. There are plenty of high quality cribs available, where crib safety is an important feature. But there are also a number of crib safety measures you can take, just by using your common sense.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

One of the biggest dangers is in using an old or antique crib. Beautiful to look at, they can be extremely dangerous to baby, and require some basic checks to ensure their safety. Firstly, check the gap between slats or in decorative cut-outs. These should always be a maximum of 2.48 inches, preferably smaller, or else baby's head can get stuck between them. You should also make sure the top side rails are at least 26 inches above the mattress. This means baby is unlikely to be able to climb out.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

Also, with any crib, make sure you take into account baby's growth. Once your infant can stand up, adjust the mattress to its lowest level, if the base height is adjustable. Regularly check the height of your child against the side of the crib - if the of the rail is less than 3/4 of your child's height, then you need to move your child into a bed.

It's important to make sure the mattress fits snugly against the sides of the crib without any gap. If you can fit two fingers between the mattress and the crib sides then the mattress is too small and crib safety is at risk. Buy a new mattress that fits the crib snugly. Also make sure you remove all plastic packaging. This includes mattress covers, dry cleaning bags and other packaging. The plastic can stick to baby's face and make it difficult to breathe.

Usually, place baby inside the crib on his back, with a firm mattress and no soft bedding underneath. Check to make sure the sides of the crib, whether fixed or adjustable, are secure. When purchasing a crib, make sure you either have to complete two different actions or exert considerable force to release the latch. If the latch is faulty or too easy to open, baby could drop the crib's side and potentially injure himself. Frequently cast an eye over the crib to check for broken pieces or any damage. Obviously any sharp edges or surfaces are dangerous and you shouldn't place baby in the crib until they're removed.

The contents of the crib also play a vital role in crib safety. Never leave baby unattended with pillows, large stuffed animals or toys. It's possible one of these could cause suffocation, or alternatively give baby enough lift to climb out of the crib. Also check for torn material in bedding. Never place the crib close enough to a window where drapery or cords could entangle him.

Finally, be aware of the possibility of lead poisoning. If you're using an old crib, strip back the paint and repaint it with non-toxic materials. Lead can be found in dust, soil, paint, furniture and even toys. So stay alert for any potential sources of lead in baby's environment.

Sometimes it can seem a lot of trouble to constantly be checking baby's crib for any crib safety risks, but it's better to take the time and be watchful, so that you can enjoy your happy and healthy baby.

Evolution of Safety Standards For Baby Cribs

A crib is a baby's bed with high, often slatted, often movable sides, suitable for a child who has outgrown a cradle or bassinet. When a young infant starts rolling over at approximately 3 to 4 months of age, the infant has outgrown the bassinet and needs a larger infant bed with better safety. Safety of a crib is more important than its looks. A brief account of evolution of safety standards for cribs in US is presented in this report.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

No safety regulations were in force for building cribs before 1974 in the US. In 1974 laws were passed for mandatory safety standards to be followed by crib manufacturers. This was the result of a number of unfortunate injuries and deaths attributed to faulty design and lack of safety standards associated with the cribs at that time. US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) imposes the safety laws.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

The Juvenile Product Manufacturers Association (JPMA) was born in 1959 and obtained its charter in 1962. JPMA is recognized as an organization dedicated to enhancing children's product safety. JPMA has developed a certification program that demands quality, safety and functionality. ASTM International, originally known as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), was formed over a century ago, is currently one of the largest voluntary standards development organizations in the world-a source for technical standards for materials, products, systems, and services. ASTM F1169-09 pertains to the latest safety standard of a full size baby crib. ASTM F1169-09 standards ensure structural integrity and design requirements addressing entanglement on corner post extensions. It requires the manufacturers to provide warning labels and instructional material for full-size baby cribs. Fully-furnished cribs are tested on, and need to conform to the following test requirements: mattress support system vertical impact properties; drop and stationary side (static and cyclic) properties; crib side spindle/slat torque properties; drop and folding side latch properties; and plastic teething rail properties.

In August of 1995 CPSC reported that used cribs are responsible for about 50 infant deaths a year. The report also said that: cribs accounted for more deaths of infants than any other nursery item, virtually all the reported victims were under age 2 and about 3/4th of the victims were under 1 year of age, incidents occurred mostly in the child's home, frequently infants strangled or suffocated when they became trapped in the crib side or end that had separated from the rest of the crib because of loose or missing hardware. Some infants also became trapped between undersized mattresses and the side of the crib, in gaps created by missing or improperly attached mattress supports, or in areas between broken or improperly spaced slats. Some infants strangled when clothing or items around their neck became entangled on the crib corner posts or crib hardware. Most of the of cribs involved in these incidents were previously owned or used. They were "hand-me-downs" gifts from friends and relatives or by purchasing them at yard sales, flea markets, and used furniture stores. Infant deaths in cribs have declined from an estimated 150 to 200 a year to about 50 since the safety standards have been set forth in 1974.

CPSC currently recommends that cribs meet the following safety guidelines:

1. No missing, loose, broken, or improperly installed screws, brackets, or other loose hardware on the crib or the mattress support.
2. No more than 23/8 inches between crib slats so a baby's body cannot pass through the slats. If a soda can fits easily through the slats on a crib, the spaces between the slats are too wide.
3. A firm snug-fitting mattress so a baby cannot get trapped between the mattress and the side of the crib.
4. No corner posts over 1/16 of an inch above the end panels (unless they are over 16 inches high for a canopy) so baby cannot catch clothing and strangle.
5. No cutout areas on the headboard or footboard so a baby's head cannot get trapped.
6. A mattress support that does not easily pull apart from the corner posts so a baby cannot get trapped between the mattress and crib.
7. No cracked or peeling paint to prevent lead poisoning. 8. No splinters or rough edges.

JPMA certifies the cribs that meet the safety criteria of the CPSC and the voluntary safety standards of the ASTM. It is important to use a well-fitted mattress for your baby's crib. The standard size of a crib mattress is approximately 515/8 inches by 271/4 inches. A standard crib mattress will fit new standard crib, but may not fit an older crib made before 1974. Buy a standard size crib that is JPMA certified with a standard size mattress for your baby.

Stair Banisters - Protect Your Family

A number of posts known as balusters support the upper rail of the stair banisters. Places like museums, manor houses and public buildings have huge balustrades. These balustrades are often made up of concrete or stone. Balustrades are known to be the oldest form of banisters. As compared to the banisters of yesterday years, banisters of today's era are far lighter in weight.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

Often the first thing that a visitor looks at when he/she enters your house is the staircase. Hence you need to take that extra bit of care in maintaining your staircase. By making use of the banisters, you can make your staircase look nothing less than stunning. Usually, when we are thinking of improving the house or about renovating the house, we often forget about the staircase. You need to make sure that you give your staircase its due respect.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

Having a good looking staircase can add a lot of value to your house. You can yourself be very creative when it comes to designing your staircase. You can choose the right kind of banisters for your house. You can opt for an old, antique looking banister in case your house has a lot of old furniture. On the other hand, you can even go for a new, modern looking banister if your house demands so.

Wood is the material that is commonly used for making banisters. Wood helps in giving the banisters a rich and glowing look. The best thing about a wooden banister is the fact that, banisters made up of wood look good both in the old form as well as in the new contemporary form. Apart from wood, material like maple, oak and beech is also used to make banisters.

Another material that makes the stair banister look elegant is Wrought Iron. Initially, wrought iron was only used in the making of doors. Later on, wrought iron was used for stair banisters. Wrought iron is known to be a highly decorative material. Nowadays, people prefer having wrought iron balusters with wooden banister handrail. The combination of wood and wrought iron gives the stair banister a perfect look.

Staircase is something that is often neglected when it comes to styling. You need to make sure that you invest some time and money to make your staircase look beautiful. A good looking staircase will only increase the charm of your house.

Stair Banisters serve as protective measures for the people who use the stair cases. Stair Banisters are nothing but railings which are situated at the side of the stair case. Banisters prevent death and injuries as they prevent a person from falling. You must be encountering stair banisters almost everyday. Stair banisters are available in many different styles. They are available in modern complex structures and at the same time they are also available in simple pipe like structures. You can choose a stair banister according to your taste and the structure of your house.

Baby Cribs are More Than Just Furniture!

Purchasing a crib is a critical decision for new parents. A baby crib is the focal point of the nursery, but more importantly it must be a safe place for the baby to rest while mom and dad are not in the room. Think about it! Your infant will spend most of her time away from caregivers in the crib. So selecting the safest crib for your newborn is of utmost importance; it will become the centerpiece of a warm, inviting nursery as well as the safest place when not in mommy's arms.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

The first choice you'll need to make is which style baby crib you would like for the décor of your baby's nursery. There are a variety of styles of cribs available nowadays.
The first and most common is the standard crib. When selecting the standard baby crib you need to be mindful of the two types of models.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

Standard baby cribs either have a single drop side or a double drop side where both sides drop down. It depends on your needs and where you would like to position the baby crib in your nursery.

The standard baby crib will provide the classic baby nursery look; however it will not provide the longevity on the next option, the convertible baby crib.

Convertible cribs convert to a toddler bed from standard crib. These cribs even have the possibility to change from a toddler bed into a day or full sized bed. This long lasting feature offered by convertible cribs makes them a very attractive choice for new parents. Although they are a more costly item when new baby expenses are all ready piling up the convertible baby crib can ideally save you money in the long run.

Next in line would be canopy cribs have four posts on the corners of the bed. These posts hold up a usually metal frame on which you can place fabric canopies. Parents who buy canopy cribs want a more elegant & sophisticated design for their nursery. Round cribs are gaining popularity. Round cribs come with a canopy frame and they add a touch of class to your baby's nursery. Round Cribs usually have large double wheel casters which make the round crib easy to move when you need to move to another area.

Let's say you have guests and you want to have them sleep in peace and quiet, you can roll the baby in his/her round crib in your bedroom. Round Crib locks into place when you have found the perfect spot for it. Round baby cribs give the look and feel of a canopy yet round baby cribs add mobility for the parents.

For the traveling parents, a portable crib is an option. Portable Cribs give parents the flexibility of taking their child anywhere to get a good night sleep. The portable crib goes anywhere and everywhere you go. Bring the comforts of home when you travel - whether on vacation or just visiting Grandpa. The portable crib folds compactly to easily carry with you. Some portable cribs, convert into a comfortable crib mattress when your child outgrows the bassinet. Parents who travel often may consider the standard baby crib for home and opt for a portable crib when out and about.

Once you have decided the type of baby crib you'd like begin to shop around. For starters, research the names of reputable furniture stores and crib manufacturer.

Your shopping experience for baby cribs is one that is propelled by finding the best for baby. This isn't a time to bargain hunt. Locate a store or showroom browse around and inspect the construction of the available cribs. Any crib worth considering should be made with a sturdy construction. The frame of the baby crib must be solid and secure. If possible check to see if the crib is stable in all positions as most baby cribs on the market today convert and adjust to grow along with the child. Inquire about when and where the baby crib was manufactured. If interested, learn the type of wood from which the baby crib is constructed. Be sure to verify that the baby crib comes complete with instruction and warranty.

When your choice is finalized and the crib arrives in your home there are a variety of safety matters that need to be put in place. The first begins with assembly. Be sure to follow all instructions. Test again to ensure that the crib is sturdy and secure as it was in the furniture store where you purchased it. If you opted for a crib with movable parts be sure all sides or rails lock into place. Nothing could be worse than the thought of the baby injuring himself while holding onto ill-assembled crib rails. When placing the mattress inside the frame of the baby crib make sure they are right against all of the sides of the crib sets. You would not want your child's foot to get lodged between the crib and mattress. Over time any mattress that appears worn or ill-fitted to the crib frame should be replaced immediately.

Before long, the time will come when you can adorn your crib with the bedding. Some safety rules will apply here as well. You should always take off any jewelry, pillows or stuffed animals from the baby when you place them into the baby cribs. This will keep the baby safe from any choking or suffocation hazard. Do not place the crib sets close to windows, lamps, electrical plugs or curtains. Soft pillows, mattresses, comforters, stuffed toys and bumper pads are not be used in cribs sets. When babies play with toys in the crib they should be supervised. As your child grows it is important to reassess the safety of the baby crib.

For example, when the baby can sit up, make sure you move the mattress down to the lowest point. As your bundle of joy starts teething you may need to affix a plastic guard to the bed rail as many growing youngster develop the habit of gnawing on the crib frame. Some baby cribs are designed with non-toxic finishes. Selecting and using a baby crib for your infant is challenging task, but one that will provide safety and design to your baby's nursery.

Toddler Beds Buying Guide

Toddler beds are typically less expensive than a full size bed but are crucial in your child's good sleeping patterns and safety once they start to climb or crawl out of their crib or other baby bed. Some toddler beds will still use the crib mattress which means that you can use an existing mattress and move it across with your son or daughter as they develop. Security rails can be fitted ensuring complete safety and peace of mind while still offering your child the freedom to move in and out of bed as they want to. The other benefit of a bed for your toddler is that they take up less space than a standard sized bed.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

Safety First

Bed Side Rails Toddler

Safety is a major issue when choosing a baby bed or a bed for older children. When kids reach nearly 1 meter tall they should progress into a toddler bed to prevent them from climbing over the side of the crib bed and potentially harming themselves. In terms of safety, beds are usually lower to the ground than the top of the side of a crib and you can always choose a bed for toddlers that has safety rails fitted on the side to prevent them falling or rolling out in the night.

Inexpensive Beds

Not only are they smaller than standard beds but toddler beds are also usually less expensive. Not only does the bed itself cost less but it will usually be able to take a crib mattress which means that you can recycle your existing mattress without having to fork out and buy a new one.

Compact Beds

Compact toddler beds are smaller than standard sized beds. For those with limited bedroom space or simply looking for a practical and beneficial way to save important space in a toddler's bedroom this makes special beds for toddlers a must-have accessory. Bunk beds can also prove critical here, as the bed is often found on the top while the underneath can be given over to seating or storage. However, care should be taken to ensure that your child is safe in the top bunk of a bunk bed.

Toddler beds are shorter than their full size counterparts. With less height for your son or daughter to have to navigate this means that he or she will be able to get in and out and move around in the bed freely and comfortably without having to cry out for assistance whenever they wake up. It does mean that you'll need to quickly establish a routine to prevent your child from waking you up all night but it will be worth it in the long run.

Beautiful Designs And Great Quality

When looking for the perfect bed for your small child you can really benefit by buying a toddler bed. Smaller in size and with a smaller price tag, you can also find stylish and modern designs that include all of the latest safety and security features that you would expect from such new furniture items. You can even let your son or daughter have a hand in choosing their very own bed.

Practical Furnishing Ideas For Kid Rooms

Kids and quality go hand and hand. Kids will be kids. They are often rough and tuff on furniture. So when it comes to furnishing kid rooms it's wise to make quality purchases that will not only last but will grow right along with them.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

Take for instance, double and triple function furnishings. This kind of kid room furniture is a real blessing as it can take your toddler right through to his teen years.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

One of my favorite kid room furnishing ideas are 3-in-1 one units which feature a sleeping area, storage space and a place to study.

Multiple purpose furnishings can save floor space and enhance the play value of a kid room. You no longer have a need for extra furniture that takes up valuable space. A further bonus is that it's usually less expensive to buy one opposed to two or three separate pieces of furniture.

Great 2-in-1 designs like bunk beds that reassemble as single beds and seating units with concealed storage are also ideal.

When looking to make such a large purchase it's best to comparison shop. Also give some thought to how the piece of furniture will serve your child's needs in the years to come.

Convertible furnishings start with cribs. Today's baby cribs often come as a combination crib and storage unit. Features may include a standard crib with rails attached on one side to a multiple drawer chest. Here, both the crib and chest would sit on a foundation of dual blanket drawers.

Once out of the crib, your toddler can sleep on an extension mattress (and spring) that is added once the rails and chest are removed. On some models this is standard. Other models have this as an option only. Consider the price difference of both.

Such a configuration offers up years of usefulness - a single bed and a freestanding chest of drawers. Other chest/crib combos feature a detachable change station on top of the storage unit. If considering this design, give some thought as to the most comfortable height for changing your baby. Most are between 30 to 40" high.

Trundle beds (with a roll-out sleep unit) are ideal for sleepovers, extra storage and additional play opportunities. You can remove the bottom mattress and use the frame for off season storage or for a train or car track set up.

Foam futons are another multiple function piece of furniture. Originally of Japanese origin these lightweight mattresses fold in half or thirds to provide comfortable seating when not used for sleeping. Today's futons come in various shapes and sizes including child sized recliners and sofas. Futons are known to be lightweight and easy to flip.

Don't let bold colored or patterned futons discourage you from making a purchase. Instead, recover the mattress with a sheet that matches the décor of the room.

Choosing a Paint Color For Your Bedroom

As with choosing a paint color for any other room, the main thing to keep in mind when choosing a paint color for the bedroom is how color affects our moods, senses and emotions. Different colors can trigger different things. For example, red is a color that excites and has been shown in clinical studies to actually increase appetite. As you can see, shades of red would be much more appropriate for a kitchen or dining room than for a bedroom.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

Another consideration is the size of the room. If you have a small bedroom and want to make it appear larger, you would want to choose lighter shades of whatever color you decide to go with because lighter colors open up a room, reflect more light and actually make the room appear larger. Darker colors, on the other hand can make a room look smaller. If you have an older home with unusually high ceilings or simply have a monstrous bedroom, you might actually want to choose darker colors to make it appear smaller.

Bed Side Rails Toddler

People who sleep during the day, such as those who work third shift, might want to choose a dark paint color regardless of the size of the bedroom simply because it does reflect less light. Less ambient light reflected off the walls would definitely be a bonus and help someone sleep better during the bright daylight hours.

If you're using your bedroom for sleep and relaxation, primarily, you'll want to go with colors that calm and soothe. Soft neutral shades are good choices and you can even add a few splashes of color if you don't like the dullness of the neutrals. More common choices are cool colors like blue and green. You've probably noticed that most hotels use lots of blues and greens in the color schemes of their rooms. This is because they are calming, soothing colors which actually help most people rest and sleep better.

If you just don't like blues and greens, there are still ways to apply the principals of cool, soothing colors. Say your favorite color actually is red and you're just determined to decorate your bedroom in red. Consider a compromise. Perhaps you could paint the walls in a more neutral shade of taupe or a cool tan and then add some bright red accessories like a red bedspread and pillow shams. Maybe even use red curtains.

You could also try to find a shade of red that is on the cooler side. In color terms, warm and cool refer to color families. Warm colors are primarily bright reds, oranges and yellows while cool colors are mostly blues and greens or colors that contain a lot of those colors. You could try to find a red that has more blue in it, leaning more toward purple, instead of a red that has more yellow in in. This would be a "cooler" red. You'll find more shades of each color than you thought were possible when you visit your paint supplier. You can even as them to recommend a cool shade of red. Any clerk who knows their job at all will know what you're talking about.

The main thing to keep in mind is that the bedroom is yours and you should choose a color you like and are comfortable with. It's best to get some paint samples from your local paint store or home center and actually tape several to the walls in various places around the room. Don't make the mistake of just doing this during the day and choosing a color. Leave them there for a day or two and see how each color looks in different lighting. Odds are, a good part of your time in the bedroom will be at night. See how each of the paint samples reacts with the lighting in your bedroom at night. Some colors that look great in natural daylight look horrible with the soft lighting often used in bedrooms.

Finally, just go with what makes you feel good. If you find a paint color you absolutely love and it doesn't fit with any of the advice given in the decorating magazines, or even in this article, go for it. That's the great thing about paint. If you get the room done and decide you don't love it nearly as much as you thought you would, you can always repaint!
